The Pun Group, LLP is seeking an experienced Assurance Services Associate to join the Southern California office of our fast-growing well-established regional firm.

Role

Supports the Firm’s assurance practice through day-to-day participation in client engagements. Performs audit procedures in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS), documents work performed in accordance with Firm and professional standards, and applies professional skepticism and judgment under appropriate supervision. Continues to develop technical knowledge of accounting and auditing standards, with exposure to governmental engagements and related compliance testing procedures, as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s in Accounting, or 0–2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret business documents, professional standards, and regulations.
  • Ability to write clear business correspondence and audit documentation.
  • Capable of presenting information and responding to questions from managers, clients, and team members.

Reasoning Ability

  • Applies sound judgment in following instructions and carrying out assigned work.
  • Identifies issues, asks appropriate questions, and assists in resolving routine problems.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in core Microsoft Office software – Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience with audit software, accounting software, and online platforms preferred.

Certifications

  • CPA certification preferred or willingness to pursue CPA certification.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, work at a computer, communicate verbally, and use standard office equipment.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

Supports client engagements by performing the following duties: 

  • Participates in engagement planning discussions and assists in carrying out audit procedures based on the planned approach.
  • Performs audit procedures, including substantive testing and other assigned procedures, on account balances, transactions, and disclosures.
  • Assists with walkthroughs, data gathering, confirmations, and other engagement procedures as assigned.
  • Prepares clear, accurate, and timely audit documentation in accordance with Firm and professional standards.
  • Communicates engagement status, questions, and issues to the engagement lead in a timely manner. 
  • Applies professional skepticism and judgment in performing assigned work and documenting results under appropriate supervision.
  • Assists with compliance-related procedures on governmental or other regulated engagements, including Single Audit engagements, as assigned.

Develops technical proficiency by performing the following duties: 

  • Becomes familiar with Firm quality management policies, engagement platforms, and online research tools. 
  • Gains knowledge of professional standards and financial reporting frameworks applicable to assigned engagements, including guidance issued by the AICPA, FASB, GASB, and other standard setters as applicable.
  • Learns and becomes proficient with Firm software, including CCH ProSystem fx Engagement, PPC Smart, Datasnipper, IDEA, and other tools used in the assurance practice. 
  • Attends in-person and virtual Continuing Professional Education (CPE) trainings as scheduled. 
  • Works toward advancing technical knowledge and practical application of accounting, auditing, and compliance-related standards relevant to assigned engagements. 

Supports client and team communication by performing the following duties: 

  • Communicates professionally with clients to obtain information and supporting documentation needed for engagements.
  • Maintains professional and courteous interactions with clients and colleagues. 
  • Assists in meeting engagement deadlines and delivering accurate, high-quality client service.
